We are asked about this constantly, usually by people newly pregnant and trying to work out who to call first. So here it is, gathered in one place.
Two things before you read on. First, Peek-A-Bump is an elective keepsake ultrasound studio. We are not a medical provider, we are not affiliated with anyone listed here, and none of these are referrals or endorsements. This is a courtesy list, nothing more. Second, please call to confirm before you rely on any detail below. Practices move, merge, rename and change who they are taking on, and this page cannot keep up on its own.

Open around the clock, with private rooms and birthing tubs. Staffed by both certified nurse-midwives and obstetricians. Formerly known as Island Hospital, so older listings may use that name.

- Lynden Clinic, 8844 Benson Road, Lynden. Opened in 2024 and includes nurse-midwives who manage low risk pregnancy and delivery.
- Sedro-Woolley Clinic, 1990 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley. Obstetric and gynaecological care. Note this site does not have its own labour and delivery unit, so ask where you would deliver.

An independent practice pairing an obstetrician and a licensed midwife in the same clinic, which is a useful option if you want midwifery care with an OB directly involved.
Family physicians who deliver babies
This is easy to overlook and worth knowing about. A number of family medicine practices in the area provide full prenatal care and attend births, which means the doctor who delivers your baby can also be your family’s regular doctor afterwards. Open since 2004 and nationally accredited. Three birth suites with tubs. Worth understanding how it works: the centre is the facility, and several independent midwifery practices attend births there. So you choose your midwife, and they use the space.

Community and lower cost prenatal care
If cost or insurance is a worry, these are the places to start. Sea Mar and similar community health centres provide prenatal care on a sliding scale and accept Apple Health.

Maternity Support Services is a Washington State programme covering things like nutrition, counselling and community resources for people on Apple Health during pregnancy and for a period afterwards. It is worth asking about.
A note if you are in Burlington
We could not identify an obstetric or prenatal practice with a Burlington address. The nearest options are in Mount Vernon, a few minutes south, and Sedro-Woolley to the east.
Questions worth asking when you call
- Are you taking new patients for my due date? Popular practices fill early.
- Do you take my insurance, or Apple Health?
- Which hospital would I deliver at?
- Will I see the same person throughout, or rotate through a group?
- Who attends the birth if my provider is unavailable?
- What happens if my pregnancy becomes higher risk? This matters most with midwifery and birth centre care.
How we fit in, and how we do not
Worth stating plainly, because people do sometimes ask.
Peek-A-Bump does not provide prenatal care. Our sessions are elective and for keepsake purposes only. We do not screen for or diagnose anything, we do not assess your baby’s growth, anatomy or wellbeing, no physician reviews our images, and we issue no report. A lovely image tells you nothing about how your pregnancy is progressing.
Everything on this page is medical care. What we do is not. If you are pregnant, the first call should be to one of the providers above, not to us. Come and see your baby once your care is sorted.
Common questions
Where can I give birth in Whatcom County?
PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham is the hospital option. Bellingham Birth Center, Birthroot and Lynden Birth Center are freestanding birth centres, and several midwifery practices also attend home births.
Where can I give birth in Skagit County?
Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and Island Health in Anacortes both have active labour and delivery units. Mothership Birth Center in Mount Vernon and Anacortes Birth Center are freestanding options.
Can I get prenatal care without insurance in Whatcom County?
Yes. Sea Mar operates community health clinics in Bellingham, Ferndale and Everson that provide prenatal care on a sliding scale and accept Apple Health. Washington also offers Maternity Support Services alongside Apple Health coverage.
What is the difference between an OB, a midwife and a family doctor for pregnancy care?
Obstetricians are surgical specialists in pregnancy and birth and manage higher risk pregnancies. Midwives specialise in low risk pregnancy and physiological birth, in hospitals, birth centres or at home depending on their credentials. Family physicians can provide full prenatal care and deliver babies while remaining your ongoing family doctor. All three are practising in this area.
Does Peek-A-Bump provide prenatal care or medical ultrasounds?
No. We are an elective keepsake studio. We do not perform diagnostic or screening ultrasounds and our sessions never replace care from your doctor or midwife.
